The nutritional standards used in Food Processor to are the current DRI (Dietary Reference Intakes) standards. The standards are listed in charts in the Appendices section of the Food Processor manual and in the Help files in the software. The standards can also be viewed in online tables from this site:

The software calculates Calorie recommended based on the REE formulas from the DRI documentation. The REE formulas also vary by age and sex, and are more involved. This documentation can be accessed online. The formulas are listed in Chapter 5 Energy.

Food Processor will use a person's age, height and weight to calculate recommended nutrient intakes.
Note: The US and Canada use the same reference standards (Dietary Reference Intakes or DRIs), so you can use Food Processor to calculate recommended intake for people living in Canada as well.
Proximates and Calories
The default percent calories in Food Processor are:
- Protein: 17%
- Carbohydrate: 55%
- Fat: 28%
The DRIs recommend a range of protein, carbohydrate and fat, we have chosen approximately the midpoint of the range for the percentages. You can modify these in the software as needed. The Food Processor also includes an option to calculate protein per kg body weight.
Modify Calorie (and other) recommendations
- Open a Person record
- Edit Person
- Click on the Recommendations button
- Click on the Source of Calories button
In the Source of Calories screen edit the percents in the available fields. To edit Protein, uncheck the "Calculate Protein based on weight (not percent of Calories). The Protein, Carbohydrate, & Fat percents must add to 100%, so editing one macronutrient will require that you also edit another or two. The fat component percents must add up to the Fat percent, so editing one of the fat components will require that you also edit one or the other two.
